Another week passes

And so another week passes without any sign of building work at Central Park. Will it be in 2012 or 2013 that the Life Centre is available? In the intervening 300 or so weeks the users of public swimming pools in Plymouth will have to suffer overcrowding and inconvenient times. Why could the council not have kept Seaton Pool open until replacement facilities were available?

Anyway, we do have reasons to thank Plymouth City Council. It seems that childhood asthma is linked to the prevalence of swimming pools in the local area. The more swimming pools around means more asthma. Plymouth should therefore be almost asthma free! Follow the link to the BBC website for the full story:-

However, there is a downside to the lack of swimming pools. Another story carried on the BBC website this week suggested that children need one and a half hours exercise per day. Without exercise children will get obese and be vulnerable to heart disease and other afflictions. For girls, swimming is the most popular form of exercise and so Plymouth City Council with its lack of swimming pools is not only letting down the people of Plymouth, but is additionally discriminating against girls.
