A Quiet Week

On the 15-5-06 there was a fantastic letter in the Evening Herald about the SWRDA, Plymouth City Council and the state of swimming facilities in Plymouth. As you crowd into Central Park, remember what you had, and remember that you can also write to the Herald. We reproduce the letter below. Also on the 16-5-06 there were three more letters on swimming in Plymouth and on Seaton pool. We also reproduce these letters below along with an Evening Herald editorial about the new life centre that is proposed at Central Park. It is certainly going to be a wonderful life centre if it ever comes about! However, if it does come about, 2009-2010 (or maybe 2011/2012) seems to be a reasonable date. So in 2003, 2004 and 2005 we had approximately 1050 square metres water surface area of public swimming pool in Plymouth. In 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 we can survive on 650 square metres water surface area of public swimming pool. In 2010/2011 Plymouth will (ho ho ho) have 2125 square metres water surface area of public swimming pool, even assuming the current Central Park facilities close. If we will need all this pool space in 2010 and we needed half of this pool space in 2005, how can we survive for 6 years on only a third of what we will be (ho ho ho) getting. Keep Seaton pool open until the life centre is built.

Other things to note are that a PCC delegation has been to see Florence (in Italy not the Magic Roundabout girl) to look at their leisure facilities. Nice, but make sure you don’t spend all the leisure budget. Also, the Conservative group on PCC are meeting with the SWRDA next week. Hopefully sense will prevail.
