You’re ‘aving a larf

The Council’s position on Seaton pool has now descended even further into farce. The Evening Herald reported on the 16-2-06 that external consultants were being brought in to try and make sense of the mess the Council has created with respect to the provision of swimming lessons. See the link below for the full story. If someone wrote this as the script for a farce you would not believe it. However, it is real and it is your money being wasted. Some wags are already saying that the cost of the consultants is £160,000 (the cost of keeping Seaton Pool open for a year). Don’t laugh; cry, because it is probably true.

The Save Seaton pool campaign has commissioned its own report from "Jack-in-the-box" consultants. This, we believe, has been produced at much less cost than the Council sponsored report, and also contains more truth than you would first think. See the link below for the Jack-in-the-box consultant report. All Councillors have been forwarded the report commissioned by the Save Seaton Pool campaign.

In a further development, our sources report that the Council has messed up and there is so far, no movement on the reduction of the permanent staff on the the PCC payroll due to the proposed closure of Seaton Pool. Obviously, we want the people employed by PCC at the three pools to keep their jobs (which would happen if all three pools stayed open), but we are disgusted at the waste and profligacy of PCC. We have a working swimming pool that employs people, albeit making a small (alleged) loss, and the Council make the situation worse by planning to close the pool, thereby losing the income that the pool brings in, whilst still having to pay the wages of the permanent employees (the major part of expenditure at the pool).

In the final development we can report, Baroness Fookes of Plymouth, the former Plymouth MP has become one of our supporters and is campaigning on our behalf. Another good reason for a second chamber (for when the members of the first one let you down miserably). Baroness Fookes has been added to our "Heroes" page and one of her letters to Save Seaton pool supporters is reproduced below.
